Letter from the CEO

“Our mission is clear: to drive African culture to new heights, transcend borders, and captivate audiences worldwide.”

D. Romuald BELLEGARDE-SMERALDA

Chairman & CEO, MWANKOM

With Rolling Stone’s unparalleled legacy as the foremost authority in music and popular culture spanning over 55 years, it feels only natural for us to extend our voice to Africa.

Collaborating closely with Gus and his team based in the US, we are thrilled to announce the establishment of Rolling Stone Africa. In today’s global landscape, Afro Culture commands a significant share of popular culture consumption, with a remarkable 70% originating from Nigerian talents.

Witnessing this phenomenon firsthand is truly inspiring, and it is this cultural dynamism that has led us to establish our headquarters in Lagos, Nigeria.

Our mission is clear: to drive African culture to new heights, transcend borders, and captivate audiences worldwide. A recent revelation from The African Youth Survey 2022 has underscored the pressing need for optimism among the continent’s youth, who constitute 70% of the population.

As stewards of media influence, we have embarked on a journey to shape a narrative that authentically represents our market – both African and its diaspora. Acknowledging the prevailing sense of disillusionment among young people underscores the urgency of our mission. We firmly believe that the stories of Africa must be told by its inspired youth, as they possess the unique perspective necessary to truly capture its essence.

The time for action is now, and it begins with harnessing the power of the Rolling Stone brand alongside a talented team representative of Africa. Together, we will propel “Made In Africa” to global acclaim.

On behalf of Rolling Stone Africa, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for your invaluable contribution to fostering opportunities between Africa and the rest of the world.
